Solar Lights General


The first practical application for an LED (Light Emitting Diode) was 1962, although it was first built by a radio technician in 1920. These early devices all emitted red light, but modern technology can now produce all colors.

LED’s have some good advantages over other lighting types, namely that they consume less energy, have greater longevity and are smaller in size.

The estimated lifespan of an LED can be as many as 50,000 hours, which in far greater than that of mercury, metal halide, or halogen lamps. LED’s are often found in solar lights due to their energy-saving qualities.

Using solar lights to illuminate statues, or water features is now a reality. In the early years of solar light production the output of the lights and the duration was really an issue. These days we can enjoy the benefits of major technological breakthroughs and put our solar lights to work on patios, gardens, security, decking, ponds, or anywher else where you want to illuminate an area.

Where the need for a guaranteed lights source is required, you will find that spotlights come with an extended cable so that you can place the solar panel where it would best receive a good amount of sunshine. You never have to worry about switching the solar lights on because that part of the operation is handled by the photo-sensor unit which automatically switches the lights on when dusk approaches.

Remember, all of this wonderful light coming your way at virtually zero cost, because once you’ve purchased the unit the sun will charge the internal battery on your solar lights, and that mean free energy. After a few years you may have to replace a bulb or a battery but that is a ridiculously small price to pay for the benefits you will receive from your solar lights.

By using Solar Lights you will also be conserving the Earth’s resources because the solar lights are simply collecting the natural sunshine of the day. The only thing you really need to be aware of is that the solar panel must receive sunlight throughout the day. It’s the sun that is really making your unit work!

Another really great benefit is that you can freely move the units around. Let’s say you decided to illuminate some nice grasses that you have, but afterward you think you’d like that light on a small tree you have. Well, all you have to do is lift if up and move it. You can’t do that using conventional lighting because the cables will be many feet beneath the ground.

Concerns about how secure our living environment is affects nearly everyone and one of the first steps you can take is to install some security lights. Solar lights can manage this task for you but for a fraction of the cost of running standard hard-wired security lights.

Obviously, leaving a light running throughout the entire evening is wasting energy and money, and now that solar lights are equipped with PIR’s they will switch on and off by sensing any movement by the light. Solar lights that are made as security lighting will usually ( and should have ) more LED’s to create greater luminosity.
